Downloading Files

Filed under: Ecommerce & The Internet

When surfing the web, you may want to save or download items you come across. You can right-click your mouse and select File/Save As… from the context menu to save a web page in .html or .txt format, allowing you to refer to it later without being connected to the Internet.

In the case of html pages a separate folder will be created to store multimedia files associated with the web page.

Left-clicking on links to .exe and .zip files should bring up the download dialog (Run/Save/Cancel) automatically.

Pictures or audio and video files can often be downloaded by right-clicking on the item and selecting Save Target As… However, be aware that some video files have a small file that instructs the main file how to play, adds a controller, etc. Saving the file won’t download all the components to watch the video file.

As always, if you really want to save the file for future use, create a new folder within your My Documents folder with a descriptive name to store the file.

Also be aware of violating any copyright laws if you plan on using the item for anything other than personal viewing.
